School Counselors

At Central Mountain Middle School, our school counseling team is here to support students academically, socially, emotionally, and developmentally. Middle school is an important time of growth and transition, and our counselors work closely with students, families, teachers, and administrators to help every Wildcat feel connected, supported, and prepared for success.

How School Counselors Support Students

Academic Support

School counselors help students monitor academic progress, set goals, develop strong work habits, and problem-solve when challenges arise. Counselors may assist with course scheduling, academic planning, grade concerns, organization, motivation, and helping students access additional support when needed.

Social & Emotional Support

Middle school students experience many changes as they grow. Counselors support students as they navigate friendships, emotions, conflict, stress, decision-making, and personal challenges. Our goal is to help students develop healthy coping skills, positive relationships, and confidence in who they are becoming.

Career & Future Readiness

Even in middle school, students begin exploring their interests, strengths, and future goals. Counselors help students make connections between school, personal interests, career pathways, and future opportunities. These conversations help students begin thinking about who they are, what they enjoy, and what possibilities may be ahead.

Family Support

Families are important partners in student success. Counselors work with families to answer questions, address concerns, connect students with resources, and support communication between home and school. If you are unsure where to start, your child’s school counselor is a great first contact.

When Should a Student See a Counselor?

Students may ask to see a counselor for many reasons, including:

  • Academic concerns
  • Friendship or peer conflict
  • Stress, anxiety, or feeling overwhelmed
  • Grief or family changes
  • Bullying concerns
  • Attendance concerns
  • Trouble staying organized or motivated
  • Questions about schedules or courses
  • Help solving a problem

Students can request to see their counselor during the school day, and families are welcome to contact the counseling office when they have concerns.

School Social Worker

Our school social worker is an important part of the CMMS student support team. While school counselors support students with academic, social-emotional, scheduling, and school-based concerns, the school social worker helps connect students and families with additional support when challenges extend beyond the classroom.

The school social worker works with students, families, staff, and community agencies to help remove barriers that may impact a student’s success at school. This may include support with attendance, family needs, community resources, mental health connections, housing or basic needs concerns, crisis support, and problem-solving during difficult situations.
